We’re in the new shop
After some very hard work getting the new premises ready we were open for business on 1st June 2019.
I am very happy with my new compact and cosy workplace.
BACK FOR THE SUMMER
It’s great to be back in Enniskerry to work again! The exciting news, in addition, is that we are moving to a new shop right in the village square (previously occupied by Petals and Sand), just behind the monument. We’re in the process of re-furbishing and aim to be up and running by the end of May. In the meantime I will still be working at The Corner Studio. Plenty of work ahead!
9.9ct Rubellite and Sapphire pendant
After purchasing it in May, I finally got around to setting this stone. The choice of fine grade diamond cut, blue Sapphires to surround the Rubellite is challenging, but I think it works. The stones are completely different colours but they have similar intensities so they balance.
Watermelon Tourmaline
This is a little rough shaped Watermelon Tourmaline. It started out as an alluvial pebble from Zambia. The stone is minimally faceted from the outside just to reveal the multicolours inside. If one looks closely one can see the outer greenish “rind” enclosing the reddish inside, hence the name watermelon.
I decided to use red gold claws on 18ct yellow gold and to make an irregular meandering shape ring shank, to set the little 1ct stone off. It has been on a longer journey on planet earth than any of us will ever take.

Back at work.
It’s good to be back in the workshop again. Here’s an image of the finished 1.93ct Indicolite pendant that I’ve been busy with.
People have asked me whether I undertake repairs and remodelling. The short answer is “Yes, we do!” with the caveat that I judge each job on its merits, if I feel I can do a good job, I’ll gladly take it on, but if not, I’ll politely decline.
In South Africa we do highly specialised micro repairs using our laser welder and possibly in the future I’ll ship it out here with me to give us another capability.
Holidays
Back in South Africa for holidays- a few days left to go before its back to work in Enniskerry. Meanwhile out and about on the MTB enjoying the good winter weather.

Exciting news! As of 21st June 2018 Oirceltic is sharing our premises with two other local artists, Holly Somerville and David McGlynn. We are establishing a collaborative project known as The Corner Studio.
